Environmental Division

Environmental is responsible for cleaning of all public facilities including restrooms, parking lots, town marina, The Boardwalk and Freeman Park. Beach maintenance, beach accesses, marina maintenance, and maintenance of all public buildings are responsibilities of the department. The division retains responsibility for maintaining streets, street signs, right-of-ways, public parking lots and traffic control.  The Environmental Division ensures the aesthetic beauty of the Town on a daily basis, including weekends, holidays and special events.

Environmental monitors contract compliance and quality while retaining the ultimate responsibility for services.  They provide collection reliability, community cleanliness and citizen satisfaction.  In addition, the division ensures that we, along with the solid waste contractor, remain in compliance with state and federal regulations on the disposal of refuse.  This division oversees the landscape contractor in the mowing of all Town properties including wells, sewer lift stations, operations yard, Town Hall, water plants, ball fields, parks, parking lots, fire station, Boardwalk, lake, ponds and entryway into Carolina Beach.

Stormwater Division

The purpose for the Stormwater Division is to ensure compliance with NPDES Phase II regulations placed upon the Town by the Federal Government and the State of North Carolina.  The Division maintains and repairs the Towns stormwater system which includes cleaning and profiling ditches, repairing and installing drainage pipe, vactor cleaning of stormwater pipe, pond maintenance, street sweeping, erosion control efforts, pollutant elimination and any other stormwater related practices.  The Division manages and oversees drainage studies that set direction for future Stormwater management projects.  The Stormwater Division is also tasked with promoting the principles of maintaining a viable, clean and safe stormwater system to aid in the protection of our communities from flooding as well as protecting our valuable water resources through public education. The Stormwater department is responsible for the maintenance of Carolina Beach Lake through water level control, algae and aquatic weed control and foundation operation.
